About Kissimmee
Kissimmee is a city in Florida. It was founded as "Allendale" during the mid-19th century but was renamed during its incorporation in 1883. Hamilton Disston helped develop the city through land speculation and dredging - as contracted by Florida. All these activities created several jobs in the city, including ship building and the steamboat industry. However, several freezes in 1894-1895, the Great Depression, and the construction of railroads stopped the development and left the city to be dependent on the cattle raising industry.

When the Disney World opened in 1971, Kissimmee changed from a ranching city to a tourism city; however, several parts of the city are still devoted to cattle ranches. Several additions to the tourism industry include SeaWorld, Universal Orlando Resort, and the Osceola Heritage Park. Other attractions also include several water parks, golf courses, Lake Toho (formally named as Lake Tohopekaliga), and the Kissimmee River.

Kissimmee has the Austin-Tindall Regional Park, Osceola County Stadium, and Osceola County Softball Complex - all of which are sports facilities and are host to several sports events including the annual National Championship Tournament for men's soccer of the NCCAA.
