About Lancaster
Lancaster is the 8th largest city and the county seat of Lancaster County, located in Pennsylvania, United States. According to the United States Census Bureau, it has a land area of 7.4 square miles and 112 meters above sea level. At first, it is called Hickory Town, but it was renamed after the English city of Lancaster by John Wright.

The city was once a colonial town that became a Victorian city. In early as 18th century the layout of its streets and the extent of improvement were established. Lancaster was home to several important attractions in American history. Some of its most popular spots are the following: the Wheatland, the estate of James Buchanan, the fifteenth President of the United States. Also, The Fulton Opera House that was named in honor to a Lancaster resident Robert Fulton, a renaissance man who invented the first fully-functional steamboat, can also be found in the city. Another signification is the Lancaster County Prison; it was built in the city in 1737, a near imitation of the Lancaster Castle in England. In 1912 it was used for public hangings, and it remains in use as of 2008. These are only few of the several historical landmarks found in this city.

Moreover, in 2000, Lancaster was awarded as one of the winning communities for the All-America City.
