Lexington is the second largest city in the state of Kentucky in the United States. It also ranks at the 66th largest city in the country. Lexington is known as the Horse Capital of the World and the Thoroughbred City and is situated in the center of the state's Bluegrass Region.
Lexington is home to the headquarters of the Kentucky Horse Park, Lexmark International, Keeneland race course, Transylvania University, the Red Mile race course and the University of Kentucky. It is also the center of many thriving organizations dedicated to the arts including ballet companies, a professional orchestra, a professional theater, several choral organizations, several museums, and a highly respected opera program. There are also many fairs and events that draw people from throughout the region.
One of its festivals is the Mayfest which is a free outdoor festival that occurs annually during the Mother's Days weekend. Kentucky's oldest bluegrass music festival, the Festival of the Bluegrass is also held in Lexington during the first full weekend of June.
Some of the most famous museums that are located in Lexington include the Henry Clay Estate, the Lexington Public Library and the Lexington History Center.
