Liverpool is a city within Mereyside, England. The city is situated along the east side of Mersey Estuary, and was initially discovered as a borough back in 1207. It took several years before the Liverpool was able to achieve the city status it enjoys today.
Before it achieved its city status, Liverpool was first a part of Lancashire, and all its development steadily revolved on the fact that it was a major port of Lancashire. As a port of Lancashire, Liverpool was able to receive much exposure from the West Indies, mainland Europe, as well as Ireland plus some links with the Atlantic Slave Trade. By the 18th and 19th century approximately 40% of the world's trade had passed through the hands of Liverpool, which greatly contributed to the rise and improvement of Liverpool's status.
History has not stopped promoting Liverpool, as major musical city with talent such as the world famous Beatles. Despite the fact that The Beatles have been long gone, numerous tourists still flock to Liverpool for the music and the other tourist attractions. With all the famous landmarks and the overall appeal, Liverpool definitely has tourism to thank for the significant developments in the city's economy.
