Lloret de Mar is a coastal town at the Mediterranean coast in Catalonia. It is known as one of the most popular holiday resorts in all of Costa Brava. It is very accessible since it is just a few kilometers away from Girona and Barcelona. As proof of its popularity, it has maintained package tours for summer vacations for years already. In fact, the main beach of Lloret de Mar has been recognized as one of the top beaches of Costa Brava, even getting an award for cleanliness.
History in Lloret de Mar is just as interesting as its white beaches. There are numerous historical remains indicating the presence of Roman and Iberian civilizations at archeological sites. In fact, earlier references to Lloret de Mar can be traced to 966, and was referred to as "Loredo" meaning "laurentum". In addition, like many of the coastal towns facing the Mediterranean, Lloret has its own share of invasions from the Saracens back in the Middle Ages.
