About Louisville
Louisville is a city founded as a settlement by George Rogers Clark in 1778 and was named after King Louise XVI of France. It has grown since then and is now the county seat of the state of Kentucky and is the largest city of the state. Louisville is often referred to as the "Home of the Most Exciting 2 minutes in Sports" due to the Kentucky Derby and the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing".

Growth and development of Louisville can be attributed to the Ohio River which allowed the development of a major shipping port out of the isolated camp site of the settlers. The city is mostly comprised of flood plains that are surrounded by hills. As the city grew, much of the area was drained and the creeks diverted or placed in canals so that flooding can be prevented.

Louisville has 122 city parks. Attractions in the city include its cityscape, its parks, sports activities, waterways, and festivals. In fact, there are several annual festivals in the city that are frequented by visitors and residents - among these are Kentucky Derby Festival, Bluegrass Balloon Festival, and the Beatles Festival.
