About Madison
Madison, the capital of Wisconsin, USA, is also the county seat of the Dane County. It is locally known as the "Mad City" or the "Mad Town". The city was named after the 4th President of the USA, James Madison. It was created in 1836 and became the state's capital even when it was only a city on paper because of its location among growing cities in the area and its proximity to Green Bay - the state's oldest city - and the lead mining regions which were heavily populated during the early days.

Madison is located right in the middle of Dane County and is surrounded by lakes of the Yahara River so that it earned the nickname of "The City of Four Lakes".

There are several attractions and points of interest in Madison: Henry Vilas Zoo, Memorial Union, Chazen Museum of Art, Olbrich Botanical Gardens, UW-Madison Geology Museum, Wisconsin State Capitol, University of Wisconsin-Madison Arboretum, James Madison Park, and the Unitarian Meeting House.
