
Manzanillo is a city the Mexican state of Colima. The city is located near the Pacific Ocean and it houses one of the busiest ports in Mexico. A 2005 census determined that the population in Manzanillo was 137,842 people making it the second largest city in the state of Colima. The city is also a known tourist destination and is being billed as the 'sailfish capital' of the world. It also hosts an annual sailfish fishing tournament attended by fishing aficionados from neighboring regions and from all over the world.
The port in Manzanillo is the busiest port in Mexico and in 2007, it was estimated that the port received and sent out a total of 18.0 million tons of cargo. The Manzanillo port is connected to the rest of Mexico via the Feromex rail lines that carries passengers to and from Mexico City, Guadalajara and Manzanillo. The Playa de Oro Airport, located around 35 minutes from the city is the main airport that serves it.
