
Miami Lakes is an incorporated town the US state of Florida. It was formerly a Census Designated Place in the Miami-Dade County. A 2004 census estimate showed that the population on Miami Lakes was at 22,688 people. It was incorporated into a town on December 5, 2000.
Development in Miami Lakes had a jumpstart in 1962. The area where it stands now was formerly owned by the Florida Senator Earnest 'Cap' Graham. The town is known for being one of the models for New Urbanism where shopping and services centers are located within walking distance of each other and from residences. It is also known for its narrow walkable streets.
The town is served by several schools including public schools such as the Hialeah Miami Lakes High School and the Barbara Goleman Highs School. Private schools located within the town include the Our Lady of the Lakes and Dade Christian.
