About Milan
Milan is the second largest city in Italy and is the capital of the Province of Milan and Lombardy. As of 2008, the city has an estimated population of nearly 1.3 Million. The city is renowned as one of the fashion capitals of the world. Milan residents are referred to as Milanese. The name Milan is derived from the city's Latin name 'Mediolanum'. It is one of the oldest and most important cities in the world and has been cited in countless works of literature, art, and film. It ha also been the home to many of the greatest minds and historical figures in the world.

Each year Milan, attracts millions of tourists from around the world. Main attractions in Milan include the Milan Cathedral, which is the third largest cathedral in the world after St Peter's Basilica and the Cathedral of Seville. It is also considered to be the biggest and the greatest example of gothic art. It hosts a large collection of marble statues including the golden Madonna that stands on the top spire. Other tourist destinations include the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.

The city also has one of the most diverse mix of ethic groups with immigrants coming from over 153 countries all around the world. The majority of the Milanese population is made up of Italians followed by Egyptians, then Chinese.

With its status as one of the major financial and business centers in the world, the city is set to host the 2015 Universal Expo. The World Expo of 1906 was also hosted by the city.
