Monterey is a city in California, USA. It has several nicknames: California's "First" City, the Cradle of History, and the Language Capital of the World. It is also well known for its famous resident artists and its fisheries.

Monterey already had inhabitants even in the pre-historic times. The city later earned the nickname as "First" city because it has been attributed to a lot of events and inventions that first took place in the area. Such "first" include first public library, public funded school, brick house, theater, and printing press. Several artists - writers, poets, and actors and actresses - came from the area and they had drawn inspiration from the beauty of the city.

Attractions in Monterey include the Monterey American Viticultural Area, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row, Sealife, Larkin House, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Pebble Beach Golf Resort, and the Fisherman's Wharf. A lot of visitors also travel to the city to take part in the Monterey Jazz Festival.
