Morro Bay is city on the waterfront of San Luis Obispo County and it belongs to the US state of California. As of the 2000 US census, the city had an estimated population of 10,350 people. The area where Morro Bay now stands was once settled by the Chumash with the greatest concentration around the mouth of Morro Creek. In 1542, Portuguese Cabrillo explored the pacific coast and named a landmark that was found in the city as Morro Rock because the shape of it resembled the head of a Moor. The name 'Morro', however, translates into the word 'Pebble'.
Tourism is a big part of the economy at Morro Bay and many of the tourist attractions in the area are found along the shoreline as well as on the streets closest to it. A working fishing port is also a source of income for the city. Notable Morro Bay residents include Jack Lalanne and author Lu Chi Fa.
