Oakville is a city in the Halton region in Ontario, Canada. The area is also a part of the Greater Toronto Area and it is located close to Lake Ontario. It was established in 1827, and as of a 2006 census estimate, the city has a population of 165,613, which makes it the 26th most populous city in the country. There are 12 neighborhoods in the city and it has 6 wards. Some of the neighborhoods in Oakville include Bronte, Eastlake, Old Oakville, College Park, and Clearview.

The population in Oakville, although it is made up of mostly Caucasians, their ethnic origins differ. Those with English origins make up most of the population in Oakville. The English are followed closely by the Scottish, then the Irish and the Germans. Those with Italian, French and Polish ethnicities are also represented in Oakville.

The city is served by a local Bus Service provided by Oakville Transit and GO Transit. GO Transit also provides rail services for Oakville together with VIA Rail.
