
Page is a town in the US state of Arizona in the Coconino County. It is located near the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell as well. A 2005 census estimate showed that the town had a population of 6,794. The town was built in 1957 to house the construction workers who worked on Glen Canyon Dam, located on the Colorado River. Before that, the area was inhabited by the Navajo Indians.
The town experienced growth in the 1960s in part due to the new roads and bridges that were built during the construction of the Dam. The area is also known for being the 'Gateway to the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area'. Two of the United States' largest electrical generation unites are located in Page. The town is served by the Page Unified School District and two public elementary schools are found in the area. A middle school and a High School are also found in the area.
The town has been the setting of several films with the most recent being the 2007 movie 'Into the Wild' that starred Academy Award winner Sean Penn. Other movies that have been filmed in Page include Hulk (2003), Evolution (2000), Planet of the Apes (2000), Maverick (1994), Broken Arrow (1996), and Highway to Hell (1990). The first film that was shot on location in Page was The Greatest Story Ever Told; it was filmed in 1965. The area was also the setting for Superman III and for Exorcist II: The Heretic.
