It is known by its nickname, The City of Flags, as well as for its motto that states 'Enhancing the Quality of Life for all Citizens'. A 2007 census estimate revealed that Pensacola has an estimated population of 54,283. The city is a seaport on the Pensacola Bay and helps connect the United States with the Gulf of Mexico.

Pensacola was given the nickname 'The City of Flags' because of the five governments that have flown flags over the city throughout its history. The flags include those from Castile (Spain), France, Great Britain, Confederate US and the United States of America.
