
Penticton is a city in the Okanagan Similkameen regional district in the British Columbia province of Canada. The city was incorporated in 1908 and it celebrated its 100th year anniversary in 2008. A 2006 census showed that the city of Penticton had a population of 31,909 people. Sister cities for Penticton include Ikeda in Hokkaido, Japan. The city's name is taken from the Okanagan language that refers to the year round flow of the Okanagan River. The tourism board of the city promotes the area as a 'Place to Stay Forever'.
The economy in the area is tourism based and because of this the population the area swells to three times its normal number. Annual events held in the city include the Okanagan Wine Festival, the Ironman Triathlon, the Elvis Festival and the Pentastic Jazz Festival.
Penticton is served by the Penticton Regional Airport, which was constructed in World War II and made to serve as a landing strip.
