About Prague, Czech Republic
Prague is a modern city known for its strong ties to the past, a rich legacy or art and architecture that was threatened to be completely wiped out in the August 2002 floods. The city is known more for its Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance buildings, and the city's cobblestoned streets have seen centuries of history being played out as the rows of onion domes stood proudly against the Eastern European sky.

Prague is slowly turning into the modern cosmopolitan metropolis, seen in the constant rumble of jackhammers in the streets that are undergoing a facelift to the renewed efforts to restore once-dilapidated avant-garde building facades to their former glories.

All these efforts are due in part to the influx of tourists in the city, congesting the narrow pedestrian walkways and the stone alleys that lead to the city squares, parks and other interesting destinations in the city. The streets are also becoming clogged with traffic due to the rapid influx of bigger foreign cars that were clearly not made to be driven around the small and narrow streets of the Czech capital.

Prague's residents are not the typical Eastern Europeans that the rest of the world tends to associate with the rest of the Eastern Bloc. More stylish and modern than the rest of Eastern Europe, a distinction that most Prague natives wear with pride.
