Rotterdam is a commercial and industrial city in the Netherlands. It is part of the Randstad and houses the port of Rotterdamn, which is the largest port in Europe. It has a metro system and a tramway but the best and fastest way of touring the city is through a bike.

Rotterdam houses many museums. Some of its most well known museums include the Netherlands Architecture Institute, the Historical Museum, the Boijmans-van Beuningen Museum, the Kunsthal, the Volkenkundig Museum for foreign cultures and people and the Witte de With, which is the center for contemporary art in the area.

It is said that at the onset of the 20th century, some of the most influential, modern style architecture is found in Rotterdam. The most notable of these are the Jugendstil clubhouse designed by Hooijkaas jr. en Brinkman for the Royal Maas Yacht Club, the Vann Nelle frabriek and the football stadium de Kuip.

Rotterdam also holds yearly events such as the International Film Festival Rotterdam, the Summer Carnival, the Pleinboscoop and the North Sea Jazz Festival on the second week of July.
