
Runaway Bay is a town part of Saint Ann Parish located on the northern coast of Jamaica. It is a notable tourist destination located just 16 kilometers west of Ochos Rios and slightly east of Discovery Bay. Runaway Bay is home to the famous Hedonism III, a nudist resort and is also the childhood home of Bob Marley.
Runaway Bay was so named because it was once served as an escape route for runaway slaves. The Arawaks were the first native settlers of the island, including the area around Runaway Bay. The Arawaks put up a valiant effort to retain control of the land but was overpowered by Spanish explorers. Spanish explorers claimed the land for the Queen of Spain. Jamaica remained under Spanish rule until the British captured the island by conquest in 1655. Runaway Bay is known as a resort area and as the place for the final resting place of famous reggae artist, Bob Marley.
Runaway Bay is great white-sand destination that is much less crowded than beaches found in Ochos Rios. The town beaches are recommended for tourist who wants to escape from the noise hordes of tourists and vendors that usually flock tourist attractions. Tourists need not worry about over seclusion as there are also few nearby local attractions available. Runaway Bay also treasures culture and history which can be visited by tourists at the Seville Great House and at Columbus Park Museum.
