Sacramento is the capital of California and is also the seat of Sacramento County. The seventh largest city in California, Sacramento is located along the Sacramento River. The city was named after the Spanish word for 'Sacrament'. Not only is it the seat of its county, it is also its' cultural and economic center. Nicknames for Sacramento include River City, Sac, Sac-town, Sacto, and the City of the Trees. It is home to several renowned educational institutions, most notably the California State University.

The city is home to several major professional sports teams, most notable are the NBA team of Sacramento Kings, the Sacramento Monarchs (WNBA), the Sacramento River Cats (PCL), and the Sacramento Knights (NPSL). Famous Sacramento landmarks include the Ziggurat Building, the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, the Eagle Theater, and the Crocker Art Museum to name a few.
