Saint John is located in the province of New Brunswick, Canada. It is the largest city in the province and the oldest incorporated city in Canada. As of 2006, the city census totaled to 68,043. Situated along the north shore of the Bay of Furdy at the mouth of the Saint John River, Saint John is a picturesque old and modern city.
The city of Saint John came about when Loyalist-dominated communities of Parrtown and Carleton were amalgamated by royal charter in 1785. This move made the city of Saint John the first incorporated city in British North America. During the 19th century, Saint John became the province's leading industrial center. The economy was driven by the city's shipbuilding trade that lasted until 2002.
Two hundred or so years later, Saint John city enjoys a historic culture and a rich cultural heritage. The city has the highest concentration of arts, dining and entertainment in the Province. Saint John also has established both a national and international reputation for being a great place to live and work. Saint John city is known for its green spaces such as the Rockwood Park. Other city attractions include Reversing Falls Jet Boat, the New Brunswick Museum and the Saint John City Market, the oldest market in Canada. In the year 2001, Saint John won the "Most Beautiful City Award".
