About Salt Lake City
Salt Lake City is the capital and the most populous city in the US state of Utah. Historically, a group of Mormon pioneers founded the city in 1847. Today, the city is still of the Mormon Church headquarters. Nicknamed the Crossroads of the West because it is the site of the first transcontinental railroad, the city's name is often shortened to 'Salt Lake' or simply, S.L. Many films, commercials, TV shows and music videos have been recorded in the city including the High School Musical franchise.

The present economic landscape of Salt Lake is service oriented and is focused on trade, utilities and transportation. The city is also considered to Industrial Banking center of the United States. Recreational tourism, primarily skiing, is also a big contributor to Salt Lake's economic output. The prominence of winter sports in Salt Lake, led to it being chosen to host the 2002 Winter Olympics.

Museums like the Church History Museum, the Utah Museum of Natural History and the Utah Museum of Fine Arts can be found in Salt Lake City. Performing arts are also prominent in SL with off-Broadway and travelling Broadway performances periodically visiting the city. The award winning Salt Lake City Children's Choir, established in 1979 by Ralph Woodward, also hails from the city.
