About Santo Domingo
Santo Domingo, formally known as Santo Domingo de Guzman, is the capital city of the Dominican Republic. It is also the largest city in the country and in the Caribbean. It is called 'La Capital' or 'The Capital' in English. It has an official motto stating 'Ciudad Primada de America', which translates into 'The First City of America'. Santo Domingo has an estimated population of over 2 million people.

There are several landmarks in Santo Domingo that attract both foreign and local tourists. These include the Cathedral Santa Maira La Menor, the Calle El Conde, Puerta de la Misericordia, and the Alcazar de Colon. Other places of interest in Santo Domingo include the Plaza de la Cultura which hourses the Teatro Nacional and the Museo de Arte Moderno. Recreational areas found in Santo Domingo include Mirador Norte Park, the Dominican National Zoo, Barrio Chino (Chinatown), Parque Nunez de Caceres, Colon Park and the Malecon.

The city is served by the two airports; they are the Las Americas International Airport and the Las Isabela International Airport. The Port of Santo Domingo is also located in the city. The Santo Domingo Metro also serves the city and several highways pass through Santo Domingo as well. Twin cities include Bern (Switzerland), Bogota (Colombia), Buenos Aires (Argentina), and Madrid (Spain) to name a few. Notable residence of Santo Domingo baseball players Moises Alou, Melky Cabrera, Francisco Cordero, Pedro Martinez, and Sammy Sosa. Singer Juan Luis Guerra and pianist Michel Camilo are also from Santo Domingo.
