Saskatoon is a city in Saskatchewan, Canada. It is located on the South Saskatchewan River and is the most populous city in the area. Its name was derived from "misaskwatominihk" which is Cree for the violet berries that are found in the area. The city is often referred to as the City of Bridges because there are 7 bridges located in the vicinity. The city has about 2/3 of the whole potash reserves of the world.
Growth in the downtown area of Saskatoon has been fast in the past couple of years - pulling along all the sectors necessary for development: finance, insurance, real estate, manufacturing, wholesale, and retail. Scientific research in the city is also on the state of advanced development.
Points of interest in Saskatoon include the Mendel Art Gallery, Meewasin Valley Center, Saskatchewan Western Development Museum, the Forestry Farm Park and Zoo, and the Wanuskewin Heritage Park. The city is also known for its live theater.
