Shanghai is one of the most developed as well as the most populous cities in the People's Republic of China. The city is considered as one of the largest metropolitan and urban areas in the world. Shanghai is also hailed as the economic and cultural center of East Asia in the early years of the twentieth century.
To check the classical Chinese architecture that is found in Shanghai, the Yuyuan Gardens is a place that should be visited. A large chunk of the city's history resides in this little temple and garden. The old buildings of the Bund can also give the tourist a taste of Shanghai in the 1920s, or you can also cross the river and view the cityscape of the Pudong district for a whiff of 21st century Shanghai.
Shanghai is also home to fine examples of Soviet neoclassical architecture that were mostly built during the founding of the People's Republic in 1949. These buildings include the Shanghai International Exhibition Center. The city also includes a variety of museums like the Shanghai Art Museum, the Shanghai Natural History Museum among others.
