Sharm el Sheikh known as "The City of Peace" due to its large number of peace talks that had been held in the city. It is situated on the southern part of the Sinai Peninsula, in Janub Sina', Egypt, on the coastal strip between the well known Red Sea and the historic Mount Sinai.
Sharm el-Sheikh location is overlooking the Straits of Tiran at the mouth of the Gulf of Aqaba. Due to its strategic importance to the Egyptian Navy, it was transformed from a fishing village into a major port and naval base. In 1956, it was captured by Israel during the Sinai conflict, the city was under Israeli control until the Sinai peninsula was fully given back to Egypt in 1982 after the Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty of 1979.
