About South San Francisco
South San Francisco is a city in the United States state of California. It is located in the San Mateo County in the San Francisco Bay Area. The city has been nicknamed 'South City' and Industrial City. A 2000 census determined that South San Francisco has a population of 60,552. Two major highways serve the city. A BART station is also found within the city and sits adjacent to the El Camino High School.

The city is known for its landmark known as Sign Hill. The hill is visible to anyone who travels along the San Francisco Peninsula and to those travelling to the San Francisco International Airport. It has huge letters on it stating 'South San Francisco: The Industrial City'. In contrast to the Hollywood sign, the letters on Sign Hill are made of concrete and sit flush with the hillside. The city also has a number of parks with the largest being the Orange Memorial Park. It contains softball fields, soccer fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, and an indoor swimming pool. Orange Memorial Park also hosts the annual South San Francisco 'Day in the Park' celebrations.

Other attractions in South San Francisco include Oyster Point, which is a marina located along the San Francisco Bay. The Holiday season attracts people from neighboring cities to South San Francisco. The most popular spots include the Parkway Estates where the houses are intricately decorated with Christmas lights. The city is also the home of 'Bertolucci's' an Italian restaurant that thrived in the 60s and 70s.
