About St. Augustine FL
St. Augustine is a city situated in the county seat of St. Johns County in Florida. Among the cities in the United States, St. Augustine remains to be the oldest city that has been continuously occupied African-European established city. It has the oldest port located in the continental United States. The city lies in the First Coast, a region in Florida, which spans from Amelia Island to the southern part of Jacksonville.

St. Augustine was first discovered by a Spanish admiral named Pedro Menendez de Aviles back in 1565. Although a few settlers have tried to settle in St. Augustine, all except the Spanish settlers have failed. When Aviles settled in St. Augustine, he first named it as San Agustin. A year after the settlement, Martin de Arguelles was born, making him the first European child to be born on continental United States.

Many other nationalities have ruled in St. Augustine, until Florida was able to break away from the second Spanish control in 1784-1821. A treaty was signed wherein Florida was turned over, peaceably, to the United States.
