The City of Steamboat Springs is a Home Rule Municipality that is the center of administration and considered as the most populated place in Routt County, Colorado, United States. As of 2000, its population is around 9,815.
This city is also identified with the names such as "Steamboat," "The Boat," or "Ski Town USA". Internationally acclaimed winter resorts also like the Steamboat Ski Resort is located here, and Howelsen Ski Area.
This city got its name from the several geothermal hot springs in the Yampa. For the early settlers or the Yampatikas Utes, the bubbling sounds created by these springs are similar to a steamboat.
The Steamboat Yacht Club is established by the locals together with a restaurant on the Yampa River.
A famous gathering is the Yampa River Festival where people enjoy the kayak rodeo, a downriver race, Colorado's only upstream slalom race, and the Crazy River Dog Contest.
