Sydney was inhabited by the aboriginal people before it was settled by the British in the 1700s and continued to expand with the discovery of gold in the area which led to the influx of golf seekers to what is now the metropolis. Sydney continued to progress at the start of the industrialization era, despite suffering a big financial blow during the Great Depression. However it was also during this period that the Great Sydney Harbor Bridge was completed, in 1932.

Sydney now holds a reputation as one of the most expensive cities in the world, and yet one of the most livable as well. The city is a hub of culture, commerce and finance, seen in the grand and unassuming majesty of the Sydney Opera House and the Harbor Bridge. Summers in Sydney are unforgettable. Bondi beach is famous the world-over for its great surfing and Speedo-clad ligeaurds as well as for the chic sun worshippers of Tamarama beach and Bronte Beach's fearless wave-catchers.
