About The Woodlands
The Woodlands, located in the state of Texas is known as a census-designated place or CDP and a large master-planned community of Montgomery. The planned community was developed by the Woodlands Corporation and is located on 27,000 acres of forestland 27 miles north of Houston, Texas. As of 2006, the population in the Woodlands has grown from 55,649 in 2000 to a bustling population of 84,418. Though the Woodlands started out as a suburban development and a bedroom community, it still attracted corporations to the area.

The Woodlands was founded in 1974 by George P. Mitchell and managed by The Woodlands Corporation. The land where The Woodlands is located was previously occupied by the Grogan-Cochran Lumber Mill. The Woodlands development plan included principal design plans from distinguished landscape architect, Ian McHarg. Much of the development has retained its trees for shade as well as for decoration. The terrain of The Woodlands is that of small rolling hills.

Aside from being a growing residential area and corporate housing venue, The Woodlands features many places for leisure and entertainment. The Woodlands boasts of a shopping mall, seven golf courses, a regional concert venue called The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, and a 4-star rated The Woodlands Resort. The Woodlands has grown steadily as one of the region's most desired places to live and work. The development has a great residential framework which combines residency, industry, churches, schools, public facilities, shopping, recreation and the forest all located in an aesthetically-pleasing environment.
