Torrance is a city in the South Bay Region of the Los Angeles County in the US state of California. It is known for the 1.5 miles of beach coastline. It is, however, less popular than its neighbors to the North and South, which are Redondo Beach and Palos Verdes respectively. The 2000 US census determined that there is an estimated population of 138,000 people in Torrance. Its population makes it the 6th largest city in the Los Angeles County and the 34th in the state of California.
The city's motto states 'A Balanced City'. It enjoys pleasant weather year round with low humidity, sea breezes, warm temperatures and an average rainfall of around 12.55 inches a year. Over 90,000 street trees are found all over the city.
The city is made up of a flourishing business and tourist economy and it is made up of a diverse collection of residents.
