Tsim Sha Tsui is a commercial district located in Kowloon, on the island of Hong Kong. Situated on the southern tip of the peninsula north of the Island, the area is frequented as a shopping and entertainment spot. Known as "Tsim Tsui " by locals and "TST" by tourists, various hotels, bars and shops line the streets, making the district a buzz of bright signs and activity. More than its charming frenzy however, is its significance in history as the terminal for the ship called "Star Ferry," which was, for over a century, the only public transport that brought passengers to Hong Kong Island.
Local and international tourists swarm the island especially during December, when the visual spectacle of Christmas lights delight and amaze the crowd with amazing patterns. The Christmas sight has been quite famous for many years.
The district is not limited to fun and entertainment however, as in addition to the bars and hotels, the district also has museums that educate tourists interested in more than the district's commercial opportunities.
"Tsim Sha Tsui" means 'sandy mouth' in Chinese.
