About Tybee Island
Tybee Island is an island city in Chatham County, Georgia close to Savannah. It is a part of the Savannah Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was renamed as Savannah Beach at the end of 1950s but had reverted to its original name. "Tybee" is an Euchee Indian word for salt.

In the year 2008, Tybee Island was named "Best One Tank Trip" by the Atlanta Journal Constitution, "Best Beach Retreat" by the Atlanta Creative Loafing, and "Best Beach" by Georgia Magazine.

Aside from having an excellent beach, Tybee Island has other sites that have to be visited.

The Tybee Island Light Station or Tybee Lighthouse is among the oldest in the US and is still in operation since 1736 and stands in its original base. One can relax on the Tybee Pavilion with the featured arts, food and music, fish at the Tybee Pier, attend the annual Beach Bums Parade at Butler Avenue, and on New Year's Day is the Polar Bear Plunge Swim in the Atlantic Ocean.
