Universal City, located in San Fernando Valley, is a community in Los Angeles County, California. It is comprised of the 415 acre property of Universal Studios. A large portion of the community is located in the unincorporated part of the Los Angeles county - it remains unincorporated so as to avoid the taxes and regulations imposed by the city of Los Angeles. It is also operated by a fire station being operated by the government - the only of its kind located on private property.
Many parts of Universal City are significant because they have formed as backgrounds or areas where TV shows and films have been shot. Aside from the Universal Studios, the city will be home to NBC Universal - a move that is currently in the development and construction phase.
The history of Universal City is rich with filmmakers, directors, actors, actresses, stunt people, and everyone belonging to the movie scene. Once called "Laemmle's Folly" because of the "mistake" that Carl Laemmle (of Universal Studios) made when buying a large, open property, the "folly" turned into a dream-come-true with developed city areas, movie sets, and viewing stands for the public to view the movie-making process.
