Waianae is a town as well as a Census Designated Place (CDP) located in the Honolulu County in the US state of Hawaii. As of a 2000 Census, this CDP has an estimated population of 10,506 people. It has a total area of 5.1 square miles. It contains two high schools. Some of the students residing in the town attend the Waianae High School while others attend the Nanakuli High School. The CDP is known for its beaches and annual attracts thousands of tourists from all over the US and the world.
The 2000 census also determined that Waianae is home to 2,595 households and 2,221 families. The population density was 3,086.0 people per square mile. The median annual income for a household in the Waianae CDP is $46,717. Males have a higher median income than females do. The census also revealed that 19.8% of the population in Waianae was below the poverty line.
