Warsaw is the capital city of Poland and is the largest city of the country. It is the capital of Poland since 1596 and is the country's commercial and urban center. It was completely destroyed during World War II but the city was able to gather itself up from the ashes. Warsaw is located on the Vistula River and divides the city into two parts.
There are many points of interests in Warsaw which includes Warsaw's Old Town, which is the area destroyed during World War II and was restored shortly thereafter. The magnificent Royal Castle is listed as a member of the UNESCO World Heritage List. The city also houses several parks and gardens including the Lazienki Royal Gardens, the Botanical Gardens, the Field of Mokotow, the Saski Garden, the Kabaki Forest and the Skaryszewski Park, which is the biggest park in the city.
The city is also the home of many museums including the Warsaw Uprising Museum, the Zacheta National Gallery of Art, the National Museum and the Center for Contemporary art. Festivals like the Warsaw Film Festival, Warsaw Summer Jazz Days and the Warsaw Autumn Festival are also held every year.
