Wichita Falls is a city in Texas and is the county seat of the county of Wichita in Texas, United States. The city is named after the Wichita Indians who resided near the waterfalls in the Wichita River. It is a major industrial and trade center with its economy primarily based on oil processing, other varied manufacturing and the Sheppard Air Force Base.
The city includes a Symphony orchestra, a ballet center, a museum, an art center, a community theater and the Sheppard Air Force base which is a training center that hosts the one and only pilot training program for NATO in the world.
Throughout the year, several events are held in Wichita Falls. These events include the Spring Fling in April, The Renach Round-up, the T&O Fair and Fallfest, the MSU-Burns Fantasy of Lights and the City Lights Festival in December. Wichita Falls is also the home of Hotter'N Hell Hundred - the largest annual century bicycle ride in the country.
The city also houses Lucy Park with paved walkways and unpaved trails that are suitable for hiking and off-road biking.
