Williams, a city in Arizona, USA, is located in the south portion of the Grand Canyon National Park so that it is considered as a major tourist stop to and from the park. Because of its proximity to the park, the city caters to tourists more than to its residents in inns, motels, restaurants, and gas stations. The city has a relatively small population of local residents although the number increases exponentially during the summer and holiday seasons.
Williams was named after a mountain man and trader, William "Old Bill" Williams. Just south of the city is a mountain named Bill Williams Mountain, which rises to 9,256 feet elevation.
Because of the location of Williams, it is ideal for several outdoor camp and sports activities including ATVs events, biking, fishing, hiking, golfing, rock climbing and camping. It is also an ideal place for scenic drives, scenic flights, and general sightseeing. The city is served by Amtrak so that going to and from the area is quite easy. Also, Interstate 40 allows automobiles, buses, and taxis to get to the area.
