Windsor is a city - the southernmost - in Canada and located in the province of Ontario. It is here that traveling to America means going north. It is called as the "Rose City"- its residents are "Windsorites". Being one of Canada's largest automobile manufacturing centers, it is called as the "Automotive Capital of Canada". It has a motto of "The river and the sun sustain us".
Its name was chosen by voting in the so-called name controversy in 1892 as it aims to be a city. "Windsor" won over "Richmond" - the second runner up, "The Ferry", and "South Detroit". Still, "Richmond" was popularly used until WW 2.
Windsor's economy relies on manufacturing, education, government service, and tourism. Popular tourist attractions in the area include Little Italy, the Odette Sculpture Park, Ojibway Park, Jackson Park, Caesar's Windsor, the Ambassador Bridge, and the Coventry Gardens. There are also several festivals that draw tourists annually including the Windsor-Detroit International Freedom Festival.
